CONCRETE MIXING TRUCKS

Concrete Mixing Trucks

Concrete mixing trucks are on construction sites around the world and all of them need quality high performance lubricants.

Starting from the from the front and working towards the back…

Most of these units are diesel powered, SWEPCO 310 Premier Engine Oil SAE 15W40 or 10W30 will provide excellent service, quieter operation, reduced maintenance, and longer drains in most cases. The SWEPCO 310 is backward compatible for older units and acceptable for use in gasoline and natural gas-powered trucks.

Moving to the under carriage, SWEPCO 123 Ultra EP Multi-Service Grease or SWEPCO 101 Moly Grease are preferred greases for kingpins, u-joints, and wheel bearings. These greases will withstand the heat, loads, and contaminates the typical under carriage experiences.

Next is the fuel tanks, diesel fuel carries its own issues including disappearing cetane, water, storage stability, and oxidation. SWEPCO 501 Premium Diesel Fuel Improver can address all these problems and more. Use SWEPCO 503 Premium Gasoline Improver for gasoline powered units.

Recommendations for the transmission fluid will vary with manufacturer and whether it is manual or automatic. For example, most Allison transmissions will use SWEPCO 712 Premium Synthetic Multi-Service ATF while Eaton will use SWEPCO 711 SAE 50WT Synthetic Transmission Fluid, SWEPCO 202 MolyXP 75w90 Synthetic Gear Lube or SWEPCO 212 MolyXP Multi-Grade Gear Lube.

Most manual transmissions will use SWEPCO 201 Multi-Purpose Gear Lube or SWEPCO 203 MolyXP Gear Lube at the OEM recommended viscosity.

The gearbox that turns the mixing drum will operate smoothly with SWEPCO 201 Multi-Purpose Gear Lube. The water separation and extreme pressure properties will promote reliable operation along with easy removal of water and contaminates. Most systems use the SAE 90 (ISO 220) viscosity oil.

Many mixing drums are supported by rollers that would benefit from SWEPCO 123 or SWEPCO 105 High Impact Plus Grease. These greases withstand water and contaminates while supporting heavy loads. SWEPCO 123 or 105 would also be recommended for the bearing at the top of the mixing drum.

Differentials for the rear wheels will require a superior gear oil that will withstand shock loads and vibration. Depending upon the EOM recommendations SWEPCO 212, 201, or 203 will provide excellent service.

Certain brands of cement trucks will have hydraulic systems, SWEPCO 703 Synthetic Multi-Grade AW Hydraulic Oil will provide year around service, separate water, prevent wear, and condition hoses and seals.

Finally, SWEPCO 123 or 105 greases can be used on bearings, joints, and other moving parts to resist water, contaminates, and wear.

Note: use SWEPCO 801 Clear Penetrating Lubricant on door and hood hinges, door latches, and anything that squeaks. SWEPCO 803 Chain & Cable Lubricant is recommended for any chains or cables to protect against rust and corrosion.
